Title: Coffee Q&A with the Authors of "Something Happened in Our Town"

Date: Tomorrow, April 9, 10 a.m. CT

Written by three psychologists, "Something Happened in Our Town: A Child's Story About Racial Injustice" helps children identify and counter racial injustice. In 2020, the children’s book was challenged in libraries and schools for “divisive language” and because it was thought to promote anti-police views, becoming the #6 Most Challenged Book in the U.S.

Join the authors — Marianne Celano, Marietta Collins, and Ann Hazzard — for this coffee Q&A tomorrow at 10 a.m. CT as they discuss the importance of these titles on communal shelves and their reactions to being banned authors. Moderated by Iowa City Public Library Community & Access Services Coordinator Sam Helmick, this 45-minute event also invites attendees to ask the authors questions.

The Q&A will be live-streamed on the Banned Books Week Facebook page.
