For over fifty years, the Freedom to Read Foundation (FTRF) has been at the forefront of legislative issues -- whether it's fighting a book challenge, protecting access to information, or defending free speech as provided under the First Amendment.

Join FTRF General Counsel Theresa Chmara and FTRF Director Deborah Caldwell-Stone as they share current legislative and legal updates from throughout the country. These topics and cases are often at the center of FTRF work, and are discussed at foundation meetings and conferences. This webinar is an opportunity for members to gain an understanding and legal insight into what’s happening today in the field.

Our presenters:

For close to two decades, Deborah Caldwell-Stone has supported FTRF with her legal knowledge and expertise in issues of privacy and intellectual freedom. She has led training sessions, shared legislative updates, and worked with staff, trustees, FTRF legal counsel and other organizational partners to guide the Foundation.

Theresa Chmara is an attorney in Washington, DC., and the General Counsel of the Freedom to Read Foundation. She is the author of Privacy and Confidentiality Issues: A Guide for Libraries and their Lawyers. Theresa has been a First Amendment lawyer for over 25 years and is a frequent speaker on intellectual freedom issues in libraries. She is a contributing author for the Intellectual Freedom Manual.
