Librarians, intellectual freedom advocates and those interested in prisoners’ rights will learn about the realities of correctional censorship and to be powerful and articulate voices in their communities. In this interactive webinar, practice real, tested strategies and techniques to support intellectual freedom in unfree spaces.

Jails and prisons often lack clear and consistent policies. Advocacy skills honed for an audience of skeptical wardens, sheriffs, and other correctional staff are key to a front-line librarian's success.

Attendees who don't serve those in corrections will still learn valuable skills. See and discuss examples of censorship and how public attention helps the underserved push back against arbitrary decisions.

Presenter Erin Boyington has worked for the Colorado State Library’s Institutional Library Development team (ILD) since 2016. Before that, she was a library manager in the Colorado Department of Corrections. Erin currently serves on the Association of Specialized Government and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASGCLA) Board of Directors and is the incoming co-chair for the Library Services to the Incarcerated and Detained interest group.
