  • Wrote a column of open access for Change magazine to be published in March/April 2010
  • Met with the ACRL/ASCLA/LLAMA Joint Presidents' Program Committee at ALA Annual Conference 2009 and with my presidential counterparts at the ALA 2015 Strategic Planning Retreat to finalize our program theme and keynote speaker.
  • Represented ACRL at the ALA 2015 Strategic Planning Retreat in September 2009.
  • Participated in the ACRL Value of Academic Libraries Research Agenda meeting in Chicago prior to ALA Annual Conference 2009 and in the subsequent RFP process development and review.
  • Presented ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries award to Hollins College Library in November.

   Biographical Information

Lori A. Goetsch is Dean of Libraries at Kansas State University, a position she has held since 2004.  From 1997-2004, she was Director of Public Services at the University of Maryland Libraries. Lori also worked at the University of Tennessee where she served as Head of Reference Services (1993-97).  Prior to that, she was Head of Information/Reference at Michigan State University (1987-93), where she also worked as Information/Reference Librarian (1985-87).   She served as Assistant Reference Librarian at the University of Illinois at Chicago (1982-85).

Her activities in ACRL include serving as Director-at-Large on the ACRL Board (2004-present), as chair of the Nominating Committee (2004-05), and as a member of the 2005 National Conference Invited Papers Committee (2004-05).  She served as a member of the Information Literacy Competency Standards Task Force (1998-2002), and was chair of the University Libraries Section (ULS) Standards and Guidelines Review Committee (2000-01).  Lori was chair of the Women’s Studies Section (WSS) (1994-95), and ULS (1997-98).  She served as secretary of ULS (1991-93), as a member of the WSS Publications Committee (1989-93) and was chair of the ULS Organization and Bylaws Committee (1989-90).

She was a participant in both the ACRL/Harvard Leadership Institute (2000) and the Senior Fellows Program (1995).

Her ALA activities include serving as a member of the Equality Award Jury (1996-97), and the Committee on the Status of Women in Librarianship (1994-96).  She was also an RASD representative to the Recruitment Assembly (1992-94).

Lori’s work with state and regional associations includes membership in the Greater Western Library Alliance, where she is currently a member of the Board of Directors (2007-present), and was a member of the Planning and Organization Committee (2005-06).  She is a member of the Kansas Library Network Board/State Librarian Advisory Commission (2006-present), and she served the Michigan Library Association as chair of the Management and Administration Forum (1991-92), and the Annual Conference Program Planning Committee (1988-89).
 
Lori received the University of Tennessee’s Professional Development Award (1995) and was awarded Michigan State University Libraries’ Distinguished Librarian Award (1992). 
 
Her publications include co-author of, "Creating a Culture of Security in the University of Maryland Libraries," Portal: Libraries and the Academy, October 2001; co-author, “Electronic Reference Service (Association of Research Libraries), 1999; editor, Information Technology Planning (Haworth Press), 1999; co-author, "Readin', Writin', Arithmetic and Information Competency: Adding a Basic Library Skills Component to a University's Curriculum," CWIS: Campus Wide Information Systems, 1998; author, "Reference is More Than a Desk," Journal of Academic Librarianship, 1995; co-author, Information Desks in Academic Libraries (Association of Research Libraries), 1995; and co-editor, On Account of Sex, 1987-1992 (Scarecrow Press), 1993.

Goetsch received her Master of Library and Information Science from Rosary College.  She received both her Master’s degree in English and her Bachelor of Science degree in English from Illinois State University.
