Why Join the Freedom to Read Foundation?

By joining the Freedom to Read Foundation, you will

  • Help defend the First Amendment in the courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court
  • Support librarians around the country besieged by attempts to restrict library materials and services
  • Expand the freedom to read by offering legal and financial help in cases involving libraries and librarians, authors, publishers, and booksellers.
  • Receive the quarterly Freedom to Read Foundation News, which includes articles and timely reports on censorship trends, current court cases, and more.
  • Vote for and be eligible to run for trustee in the annual board elections.

Our personal membership levels are:  

  • Student member = $10
  • Regular Member = $35
  • Contributing Member = $50
  • Sponsor = $100
  • Patron = $500
  • Benefactor = $1000

Online Giving

Click on the orange "GiveDirect" button to above to access FTRF's online donation site and make your donation  to the Freedom to Read Foundation.  You can use this link to join FTRF, renew your membership dues, or make a donation (you can specify the purpose of your contribution on the online form).

Please note that GiveDirect uses a secure server to process credit card transactions. Your credit card will be billed as GIVEDIRECT instead of Freedom to Read Foundation.

Check/Money Order

Use the good old-fashioned Postal Service. Download the FTRF membership brochure (.pdf), fill it out, and make your check/money order payable to:

When we receive your donation, we will send you an acknowledgement in the mail for tax purposes.

Judith F. Krug Memorial Fund

Judith Krug, FTRF executive director since its founding in 1969, passed away on April 11, 2009.  Her family set up the Judith F. Krug Memorial Fund within the Freedom to Read Foundation to ensure that donations made in her memory go toward the cause she cared about so deeply.  To donate in her memory, please note "Judith Krug Memorial Fund" with your donation.

   

Carolyn Forsman Jewelry

Carolyn Forsman, jewelry designer and long-time supporter of the Freedom to Read Foundation, is offering a chance to purchase her jewelry and simultaneously contribute to the Foundation. Simply mention the Freedom to Read Foundation in the “special instructions” section when you order her jewelry at http://www.carolynforsman.com , and Carolyn will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Foundation!

Carolyn's jewelry is sold in over 100 museum shops. She has been selling her jewelry at ALA Annual Conferences and contributing the proceeds to the Foundation for nearly 20 years.

   

Frank Zappa Memorial Fund

The American Library Association’s (ALA) Office for Intellectual Freedom and the Freedom to Read Foundation have been designated by the  Frank Zappa family  as among the organizations to receive contributions made in his memory.

Contributions may be sent to the ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom at 50 E. Huron St., Chicago, IL 60611. Contributions to the Freedom to Read Foundation/Frank Zappa Memorial Fund should be sent to: Freedom to Read Foundation, Frank Zappa Memorial Fund, at the same address; or follow directions for online or phone giving above. If you are donating in memory of Frank Zappa, please note "Frank Zappa Memorial Fund" with your donation.
