Mounted Big Game a Headache for Tennessee LibraryThe Williamson County Public Library in Franklin, Tennessee, is ready to sell its collection of 20 mounted animal heads that it left behind when it moved to a new building in December 2003. The heads, dating from the mid-20th century and donated to the library foundation in 1983, are on the wall in the meeting room of the old building, where the Williamson County Archives plans to move at the end of the summer.“We really need for them to go away,” Library Director Janice Keck said in the July 29 Nashville Tennessean. “The new library doesn’t have that kind of storage space nor the wall space to display them properly.” Keck told American Libraries she has had one offer since the Tennessean story came out. The head of an African black rhinoceros, now on the endangered species list, could fetch as much as $20,000 alone. “But I’m waiting for a lover of both books and animals to write a huge check for the entire batch,” she added.
