Valparaiso University Launches Campaign
for $30-Million Library
Valparaiso (Ind.) University has launched a $75-million fundraising campaign that includes $30 million for a new library and information resources center.
The 100,000-square-foot, four-story facility, which will be nearly double the size of the university’s 40-year-old Moellering Library, will combine traditional library services and electronic information technology in a single facility. Although artists have developed sketches of the building, Valparaiso officials said the architectural design will not begin until sufficient funds have been committed to the project.
The campaign, titled “Three Goals, One Promise: The Campaign for Valparaiso University,” also seeks $35 million for the school’s endowment and $10 million to support day-to-day operations. At an April 29 news conference, campaign chair Richard Duesenberg announced that more than $57.8 million already has been pledged from individuals and corporations. Fundraising is expected to be completed by December 31, 2001.
