Clinton Library Official Vacillates
on Little Rock Site

The director of the foundation raising money for Bill Clinton’s presidential library suggested May 25 that the recent recommendation by the Arkansas Supreme Court Committee on Professional Conduct that the president be disbarred could jeopardize the library project’s location in Little Rock.

Skip Rutherford said some donors are asking why the president would want to put the library in Arkansas after the disbarment recommendation. He also said that Clinton’s alma mater, Georgetown University, as well as other cities are expressing interest in hosting the library, the Dallas Morning News reported May 26.

However, Rutherford confirmed in a June 1 Arkansas Democrat-Gazette story that Clinton was interested in his library foundation acquiring a parcel of land in Hot Springs to develop as a retreat for events hosted by the presidential library’s proposed policy center.

The library project has been controversial since Clinton chose Little Rock in 1997; two lawsuits attempting to block its construction there have been heard within the last month in local courts.
