NCES Releases U.S. Public Library StatisticsThe National Center for Educational Statistics has released its latest statistical report on U.S. public libraries, based on information from the nearly 9,000 libraries identified for the center by state library agencies. Public Libraries in the United States: Fiscal Year 1996 provides summary data about public libraries in the 50 states and the District of Columbia for state fiscal year 1996, with highlights and 40 tables. Data are included on service measures such as circulation, library visits, reference transactions, public service hours, interlibrary loans, children's program attendance, and circulation of children's materials. The report is available as a PDF file on the NCES Web site, or can be ordered by calling toll-free 877-4-ED-PUBS. Posted March 1, 1999. |
