British Library Association Names
New Chief

In the United Kingdom, the Library Association has selected Bob McKee as its new chief executive. He is currently assistant chief executive of the Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, where he formerly was director of libraries and arts. McKee has also served on the British Library Advisory Council and was an instructor in the Department of Librarianship and Information Studies at Birmingham Polytechnic.

“I am delighted and honored,” said McKee, “to have the responsibility of leading the association at a time of tremendous opportunity for information professionals across the whole library and information sector. Wherever we work, in business, education, government or the voluntary sector and whatever our cultural or ethnic background, we are all part of one modern profession.”

McKee, 48, succeeds Ross Shimmon, who left the association earlier this year to become secretary general of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, headquartered in Amsterdam. The appointment is scheduled to begin in early autumn.
