SFPL to Ask Minudri to Stay

The San Francisco Library Commission plans to ask Regina Minudri to stay on as acting city librarian, reported the San Francisco Chronicle March 12.

Minudri said at a March 11 Board of Supervisors' Finance Committee meeting that she will probably remain, but only for about 18 months more. "They'll ask if I'm willing to stay. I'm willing," she said.

Minudri, who retired as head of the Berkeley Public Library in 1994, took the SFPL position last August after Kenneth Dowlin was forced out by Mayor Willie Brown. The Library Commission has decided to postpone its search for her successor following her agreement to stay.

The Chronicle said Minudri wants to improve the system's 27 branches and the electronic card catalog, and hopes for the library to get permanent title to the underground facility in Civic Center Plaza that it uses for storage.
