MCI Seeks Super-CybrariansLong-distance phone company MCI has announced a new awards program it has created to honor 50 public librarians (one per state) annually for, in the words of President and Chief Operating Officer Tim Price, "driving the cyberrevolution by helping educate, create, and develop the vast information technology resources available in America's libraries." Becoming a Cybrarian of the Year includes a $1,000 donation to the awardee's library for materials, one-year of dial-up access to the Internet, and the promise of recognition in local communities. The program is considered an extension of the MCI LibraryLINK program conducted in conjunction with ALA from 1995 through 1997. Library professionals are invited to nominate themselves or a colleague by April 30 through the award-program Web site or to phone 800-636-1485 for further information. Posted March 16, 1998. |
