Starting in November 2014, the Freedom to Read Foundation will begin #FTRF45 -- a year-long series of events celebrating 45 years of legal and educational work in support of the freedom to read.

It was on November 20, 1969 that the Freedom to Read Foundation filed its articles of incorporation with the State of Illinois. Since that time, FTRF has been instrumental in supporting efforts to keep books on library shelves, protect reader privacy from unwarranted government intrusion, and have unconstitutional laws struck down.

Included among the events will be:

An online kick-off on November 20, 2014 featured author Chris Crutcher and several FTRF leaders. This event was recorded and is available below.

Chris Crutcher  Emily Knox  Barbara Jones  Theresa Chmara

Local fundraising events in 2015 in cities around the country, including:

The creation of a collectible tribute book celebrating FTRF’s accomplishments and paying homage to the memory of FTRF’s founding executive director, Judith F. Krug, and other FTRF heroes

An outreach campaign to build recognition of the critical work of the Foundation in the library community and among the general public

An closing Virtual Gala on November 19, 2015.

Funds raised in the course of #FTRF45 will be used to support FTRF's legal and educational initiatives. You can make a general donation to #FTRF45 here.
